The incident occurred during a routine swap operation, where a user attempted to send XRP and encountered an unexpected service fee labeled “Xaman Service Fee.” The transaction, which was ultimately flagged as “UNFUNDED_PAYMENT” on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), failed due to insufficient funds—excluding reserve requirements—but the massive fee raised immediate alarm.
The failed transaction created a wave of confusion, with users speculating about potential manipulation, software errors, or even targeted attacks within the XRP ecosystem.
