XRP Wallet Bug Sparks Alarm Over Failed 10,000 XRP Transaction

A recent glitch involving a failed 10,000 XRP transaction has stirred controversy in the XRP community, sparking concerns about wallet security and reliability. The incident occurred during a routine swap operation, where a user attempted to send XRP and encountered an unexpected service fee labeled “Xaman Service Fee.” The transaction, which was ultimately flagged as “UNFUNDED_PAYMENT” on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), failed due to insufficient funds—excluding reserve requirements—but the massive fee raised immediate alarm.

The failed transaction created a wave of confusion, with users speculating about potential manipulation, software errors, or even targeted attacks within the XRP ecosystem. Many pointed fingers at the Xaman Wallet, expressing fears over possible vulnerabilities or deeper systemic issues. Some community members even suggested the issue could be a deliberate attempt to discredit certain developers or XRPL critics.

In response, Ripple CTO David Schwartz, who is also the chief architect of the XRP Ledger, stepped in to clarify the situation. Schwartz confirmed the issue was not malicious but rather a rare system bug. He emphasized that no funds were lost and that the transaction never went through. The glitch has since been addressed and resolved.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions within the XRP ecosystem, where trust in platforms like the Xaman Wallet is critical. While the issue was technical in nature, the community’s reaction reflects broader concerns about transparency and resilience in decentralized finance (DeFi) systems. As XRP continues to gain traction in the crypto market, ensuring the reliability of supporting infrastructure remains a top priority.

This episode serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough testing and communication in the rapidly evolving world of blockchain and digital assets.
